José Estrada Garcia de Alicante España, es un amante de las orquídeas silvestres, el ha fotografiado la orquídea -ophrys- en su estado natural, y muy amablemente me ha proporcionado el modelo para realizar este apunte en acuarela.

“Creation of Botanical Paintings based on the cultural legacy left by the wise and erudite José Celestino Mutis”
A look towards the diaries and archives of this wise professor who worked with colombian artists, and left a huge legacy for Art and Science. We can appreciate the extensive work of art and research represented in the 2.945 colored sheets of qualified botanical species.
With a previous artistic analysis; this workshop invites you to recreate all the processes followed by Mutis and his artists. From the difficult journeys searching and collecting natural pigments to the work in the table where composition, skills and discipline are proved.

Invites children to explore and feel the contact with nature, then express their perceptions on their own journey’s diary. The children can learn about plants and use their creative skills ,telling stories through images.

The Páramos are beautiful places full of accidented, mostly glacier formed valleys and plains with a large variety of lakes, peat bogs and wet grasslands intermingled with shrub lands and forest patches.
This series of lithographs reflects the magic and mysterious echoes of a marvelous but vulnerable ecosystem.
2009 Publication: of the Book“Be Part of the Botanical Expedition”
This book was published by the Public National Library of Colombia. In frame of the commemorative bicentenary to death of erudite José Celestino Mutis.
The Book tells the history and illustrate with images, the whole journey of Mutis since he weigh anchor from Cadiz Spain port, his amazement watching the exuberance of the new world, the difficulties he had to accomplish the Royal Botanical Expedition and the legacy he left for art, science and ideas for independence.

“Miniature” Tiny treasures of Colombian Nature
In this exhibition the viewer is invited to take a closer look and rediscover a forbidden technique in history “the miniature”.
Incredible detail, refined skills and true expressions are qualities to enhance in this exhibition. People can recognize touching portraits of endangered Colombian specimens as mammals, reptiles birds and plants between others.
2009 Publication and alliance: with ProAves Foundation
Poster 10 years of conservation
This initiative started from an alliance we stablished with Proaves foundation; a Colombian non-profit organization that focuses on the study and conservation of our biodiversity, especially birds at risk of extinction and their habitats, in partnership with local communities.
This Poster with the endangered Colombian Yellow-eared Parrot. (Ognorhynchus icterotis), was inspired, on the 10 years of hard work for conservancy programs developed by the Foundation.

Thanks to ProAves Foundation and with the support of American Bird Conservacy, Bird Life, World Land Trust-US, US fish & wildlife service, Smithsonian National Zoological Park; we achieve the Poster of the Blue-billed Curassow (Crax alberti) a colombian curassow threatened by habitat loss.

Is a dynamic and educational event where diverse activities for all the community, especially kids and youngsters living closer to the Blue-billed Curassow Natural Bird Reserve, take place, where ProAves focuses conservation efforts for this species.The Festival intends to increase the interest of the community in the conservationist programs carried out by ProAves, changing the way people sees and thinks about the Blue-billed Curassow.

The objective of this festival is to promote the interest of the communities in the knowledge of migratory birds and the importance to preserve their habitat. In addition, the festival seeks to strengthen and consolidate the network of organizations and people committed to wild birds’ conservation in the country. Migratory birds make a dangerous trip and it’s the duty of the tropical countries to ensure their survival.

LAMINAS ORIGINALES EN EL MUSEO NACIONAL
Estuvimos en el Museo Nacional de Colombia,donde se realizó la Exposición Iconográfica "Mutis al Natural" en este espacio se dió a conocer la vida y obra del sabio José Celestino Mutis cuyo legado historico ha constituido los principios del arte en Colombia.
En la muestra pudimos contemplar la perfección de 25 láminas botánicas , elaboradas por los pintores de la Expedición. Después de tantos años y por primera vez fueron exhibidas al público colombiano.

EXPOSICIÓN MINIATURE: PERIODICO EL NUEVO SIGLO articulo
DOS JÓVENES TALENTOS SE PONEN LA CAMISETA POR EL MEDIO AMBIENTE
Miniature: arte de pequeña escala con gran sentido social
La exposición muestra piezas de colección que hacen alusión al hábitat natural del ser humano.
MINIATURE es el nombre de la exposición de arte en miniatura que está abierta en la sede Bogotá del Convenio Andrés Bello, del 2 al 11 de junio. La muestra presenta una nueva faceta de las técnicas de trabajo artístico que normalmente se exhiben en el país, pues en general las presentaciones de plástica están relacionadas a obras en gran formato.
Dos artistas, Paula Romero y Fernando Laverde, le están apostando a una forma de arte llamativa, que pretende remover las sensaciones más íntimas del ser humano a través de una serie de imágenes que muestran diversos animales y que invitan a la reflexión, en un mundo en donde la velocidad del tiempo no permite que se disfrute del paisaje.
Laverde, en diálogo con EL NUEVO SIGLO, señaló que a los colombianos “se nos ha olvidado el medio ambiente y hemos dejado de lado una parte de nuestro corazón”.
El medio ambiente es, sin duda, la inspiración de los tallados de estos dos jóvenes valores del arte criollo, que desde su trabajo buscan representarlo e, incluso, a través de los títulos de las obras evocan constantemente la importancia de cada uno de los animales plasmados.
Romero le manifestó a EL NUEVO SIGLO que concibe este tipo de arte como la manera de plasmar lo minúsculo, aquello que normalmente se pierde en la inmensidad, y hace alusión a la necesidad de estar realmente atentos a lo que pasa alrededor, pues para ella en los pormenores se puede encontrar la verdadera riqueza del entorno.
Es importante resaltar que cada una de las obras busca que el observador aprecie la riqueza natural que tiene a su alrededor y se centre en detalles mínimos que, tal vez, en otro tipo de obra de arte no son relevantes o pasan inadvertidos.
En las representaciones el espectador encontrará animales en vía de extinción. El objetivo de esta idea es que, a través de esta exposición, se genere una conciencia de la importancia de la preservación de estas especies y según expresaron los artistas, que trabajan en asocio con la Fundación Pro Aves, se espera un incremento del número de éstas a un corto plazo.
Agregado a esto, se pretende abarcar todo tipo de público, al que se le dará la posibilidad de aprender sobre la fauna nacional, complementando la apreciación de las obras con charlas dadas por profesionales, en especial biólogos, en las cuales explicarán los riesgos existentes para cada especie y las distintas maneras que hay de ayudar a su conservación.
La necesidad de estos dos jóvenes de enfocar su labor artística hacia una obra social, surge en el momento en que buscan darle un giro al objetivo final de su trabajo, pues deciden generar un resultado concreto que beneficie el medio ambiente y que vaya más allá de la observación de las piezas.
Estos dos innovadores artistas donarán un porcentaje de las ganancias recaudadas al vender sus obras a la fundación Pro Aves, pues, según afirman, su compromiso con la ecología es realmente serio. Además, volverán a presentar su obra completa en agosto, pero esta vez la sede será el Jardín Botánico José Celestino Mutis.
También están pendientes otros convenios con algunas fundaciones de tipo ecológico, con el objetivo de unir fuerzas y seguir trabajando comprometidamente por la conservación de la fauna, que se encuentra en peligro de extinción en nuestro país.
